About Us



Douglas and Mary (Libby) Maifeld pictured to the left first met in September of 1985. Douglas, a former Air Force Brat, born in Phoenix, Arizona attended High School in Germany 1979-1982 (Hahn American High School) and Illinois 1982-1983 (Belleville Township East High School), then went onto graduate from the University of Cincinnati with an Associates degree in Law Enforcement and finally moving to Rumford, Maine area in July of 1985. Mary was born and raised in Dixfield (The only one), Maine and graduated High School in 1985 from Dirigo High School in Dixfield.

We both went job hunting and were hired by Hannaford Brothers (Shop N Save) Supermarkets in August and September 1985 respectively. For the next three years we worked together in the Deli Department. Mary continues to be employed by Shop N Save, recently changing jobs from a Deli/Bakery/Cake Decorator Clerk to head of Specialty Foods. Douglas stopped working for Shop N Save after being hired as a Police Officer (See Below).

On May 23rd, 1987, we went out on our first date seeing the movie "The Secret of My Success". We became such great friends that on Leap Day (February 29th) 1988, Douglas asked Mary to marry him. She said yes.


On December 30, 1988, we purchased the house to the left. The house is located in Rumford in what is called "Strathglass Park". These duplex brick buildings were built in the early 1900's and housed the management of the paper mill of that time. This area is considered a landmark. We still resided in the right side of the house until May 2001 and the picture is current. We remolded the inside and outside of the house alot while we owned it.


Our Reception (April 29th, 1989)
Rumford, Maine


On April 29, 1989, we were married at the
"St. Athanasius & St. John" Church in
Rumford. The reception was held in Rumford
as well at "Park Place". For our honeymoon
we did a Cruise/Disney World package. This
included 4 days and 3 nights aboard the Big
Red boat with a stop in Nassau, Bahamas.
Afterwhich we had several days at Walt Disney
World before our return trip home.
We enjoyed the trip so much that in 1999 for
our 10th Anniversary gift to each other we
did the same package, but this time with our
children. The basics for the package were about
the same, but now Disney has their own
ships, "Disney Magic" and "Disney Wonder".

Rumford, Maine



On February 18, 1990, Douglas was hired full-time with the "Rumford Police Department". This was after 3 years of working for the Town of Rumford as both a Parking Enforcement Officer and a Reserve Police Officer. Douglas attended the 12 week Maine Criminal Justice Academy later that same year and graduated in the top ten of his class on November 16th, 1990. On September 6th, 1991, We were blessed with the first of our two children.
"Meagan Lea" was born in Rumford at 1:03 P.M.
Meagan was named for both of our grandmothers.
"Meagan" is a form of the name "Margaret",
which was Douglas' grandmother on his mothers' side.
"Lea" was Mary's grandmother on her mothers' side.
Meagan is now 18, graduated from Mountain Valley High School
and currently attends the University of Maine in Orono.
She Skis, played Basketball, Field Hockey, Baseball, Gymnastics and Soccer.


On May 26th, 1994, We were blessed with the second of our two children.
"Rebecca Alexis" was born in Rumford at 12:55 A.M.
There is no history behind Rebecca's name.
Just a name that both of us liked.
"Becca" as we call her is now 15.
She Skis, plays Field Hockey and Tennis for Mtn. Valley HS.
When she was younger she played Baseball
(Farm League / T-Ball) and Pee Wee Basketball.
